Plain-English context

Children are weighed at school in reception (age 4–5) and year 6 (age 10–11) through the National Child Measurement Programme. In West Northamptonshire, about 8.8% of reception children (390 children) and 19.9% of year-6 children (980 children) live with obesity. Population cut-offs used for tracking differ from clinical thresholds for individual children. We describe the numbers factually and avoid language that stigmatises children or families.
